Diabetes Screen

Diabetes Mellitus  (DM)  is the number one cause of blindness and foot amputations in the United States. Type 2 DM  is associated with abdominal obesity and insulin resistance. Type 2 DM is often diagnosed in adulthood, but is increasingly being seen in adolescents and young adults.  Diabetes causes progressive damage to the eyes, kidneys, and nerves. A Hemoglobin A1C level is routinely used to screen for Diabetes as it gives the average blood glucose concentration over the previous three months.
